Planning Your Summer Creek Maternity Session in North Georgia

There’s just something magical about maternity photos by the water — especially here in North Georgia, where hidden creeks, gentle waterfalls, and sun-dappled river rocks create the dreamiest natural backdrop for expecting mamas.

If you’ve been daydreaming about stepping barefoot into a cool creek with your baby bump glowing in the golden light — this guide is for you! Here’s what you need to know to plan your perfect summer creek maternity session near Dahlonega.

📍 1. Pick the Perfect Creek Location

North Georgia is full of secret spots — from quiet creeks to dramatic waterfalls. I love scouting locations around Dahlonega because they’re easy to reach, beautiful, and often crowd-free if we time it right.

When we plan your session, we’ll pick a creek that’s shallow enough to safely wade in, with pretty rocks and greenery to frame those magical shots.

👗 2. Choose the Right Outfits

Light, flowy dresses or boho gowns look amazing near the water — they add softness and movement. Neutrals, soft florals, or earth tones pop beautifully against mossy rocks and creekside greens. If you are booking with me (Which I highly suggest!) I include a client closet of dresses that are perfect for this to take the stress out of planning an outfit.

Don’t be afraid to go barefoot — it’s all part of the carefree, natural vibe. Bring a towel and an extra outfit just in case you want to get a little more adventurous!

🌞 3. Time it for the Best Light

Early morning or early evening is perfect for creek sessions — the light is soft and golden, and the water sparkles. Summer can get hot, so sunrise or sunset keeps you comfy (and helps avoid crowds). You also want to ask your photographer about the crowds because summer time draws the masses so be sure to go on a day that has less visitors.

🫧 4. Relax & Embrace the Messy Magic

The best creekside maternity photos happen when you let go and have fun. Splash a little, dip your toes, lean on your partner, breathe in the fresh air. These moments are about celebrating your pregnancy in a beautiful, natural way.

📸 5. Work With a Local Photographer

A local photographer (hi, it’s me! 🙋‍♀️ Lane Collins) knows the hidden spots, how to read the light, and how to guide you through the water safely while still capturing the magic. I’ll help you plan every detail — from what to wear to where to park.
